Engineer Team Leader

Are you an experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer ready to take the next step into leadership?

We’re looking for a technically strong and motivated Engineer Team Leader to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on leadership position where you’ll lead a small team of engineers, support production and play a key role in improving plant reliability, reducing downtime and maximising OEE.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day engineering function on your shift, ensuring equipment is maintained safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Engineer Team Leader Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and develop a team of Multi-Skilled Engineers.
  • Coordinate daily engineering resources and prioritise work alongside Production.
  • Manage and carry out reactive and preventative maintenance to maximise plant uptime.
  • Provide hands-on support with fault finding, repairs and equipment reliability.
  • Lead and support Root Cause Analysis and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist with the management and supervision of contractors, ensuring safe and professional working practices.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with health & safety, Permit to Work, food safety and environmental requirements.
  • Support the management of engineering spares, inventory and maintenance planning.
  • Ensure machinery, plant and engineering systems meet relevant legislative requirements.
  • Coordinate servicing, inspections and planned maintenance, ensuring equipment is safely and hygienically handed back to Production.
  • Maintain essential site services including boilers, chilled water, compressed air and effluent systems.
  • Support machinery installations, upgrades, modifications and relocations.
  • Work closely with Production to reduce losses, improve efficiency and increase equipment performance.
  • Promote high standards of GMP, housekeeping and “clean as you go” practices.
  • Support the achievement of engineering KPIs and departmental objectives.

Engineer Team Leader What We’re Looking For

  • Recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship, ideally electrical with mechanical capability.
  • ONC, City & Guilds or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Relevant electrical qualifications, with 17th or 18th Edition advantageous.
  • Strong multi-skilled engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising or mentoring engineers or contractors.
  • Experience working within a food manufacturing or similarly regulated environment is desirable.
  • Good understanding of planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, OEE and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Strong health & safety awareness and understanding of safe systems of work.
  • Confident working independently, with Production teams and within a wider Engineering function.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Good written, verbal and IT skills, with an appreciation of accurate maintenance and safety records.
