English Lecturer

Zenith are looking to attract an experienced English Lecturer. To deliver high-quality GCSE and/or Functional Skills English teaching to learners across a range of programmes, supporting them to achieve their qualifications and develop the literacy, communication, and employability skills required for further study, apprenticeships, and employment. The successful candidate will create an engaging and inclusive learning environment, monitor learner progress, and contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching, learning, and assessment within the curriculum area.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging GCSE and/or Functional Skills English lessons to learners of varying abilities.

Differentiate teaching strategies to meet individual learner needs and support achievement.

Use a variety of teaching methods and learning technologies to enhance learner engagement and outcomes.

Promote the development of literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Create an inclusive classroom environment that supports learner participation and success.

Assess learner work in line with awarding body and organisational requirements.

Provide timely, constructive, and developmental feedback.

Track learner attendance, progress, and achievement using college systems.

Identify learners requiring additional support and implement appropriate interventions.

Support learners to achieve or exceed their target grades.

Act as a positive role model and mentor for learners.

Promote learner wellbeing, safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Maintain high expectations regarding attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and academic performance.

Work collaboratively with tutors, learning support teams, and curriculum staff to support learner success.

Contribute to the development and review of schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning resources.

Participate in lesson observations, standardisation activities, and quality improvement processes.

Maintain accurate records in line with organisational and awarding body requirements.

Support achievement of departmental performance targets.

Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and teaching practice.

Participate in CPD and professional development activities.

Attend team meetings, staff development events, and curriculum planning sessions.

Adhere to all organisational policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection.

Essential

Degree or equivalent qualification in English or a related subject.

Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.

GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).

Experience of teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English.

Experience of assessing learner progress and providing effective feedback.

Experience of supporting learners with varying abilities and learning needs.

Strong knowledge of GCSE and/or Functional Skills English curriculum requirements.

Understanding of effective teaching, learning, and assessment strategies.

Ability to engage and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds.

Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to use digital technologies to support teaching and learning.

Knowledge of safeguarding and learner welfare responsibilities.

Strong classroom management skills.

Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop learners.

Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
