Environmental Health Officer Facilities & Environment | Belfast City Council | Temporary Ongoing | 37 Hours per Week Pay: £23.37 per hour
We are recruiting an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join Belfast City Council's Environmental Health Service on a temporary basis, providing cover within the Food Safety team.
About the Role
You will play a key role in improving the health and quality of life of people in Belfast through the efficient delivery of environmental health duties. Working under the guidance of a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will carry out enforcement, investigative, educational and advisory work, while contributing to the wider objectives of the Environmental Health Service.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out enforcement, investigative, educational and advisory duties within your assigned area of work
- Organise your workload to meet agreed targets and deliver a quality, customer-focused service
- Liaise proactively with public, private, voluntary and community organisations
- Provide reports, records and statistical information as required
- Keep up to date with developments in your area of work through continuing professional development
- Contribute to project work as directed by senior officers
- Occasionally work outside normal office hours, including providing cover for out-of-hours services such as the night-time noise service
- Participate in training, induction and the council's recruitment and selection procedures as required
What You'll Need
- Full, current driving licence valid in NI and access to a car for official business (reasonable adjustments considered for applicants with disabilities)
- BSc/MSc in Environmental Health approved by CIEH, or equivalent qualification acceptable to the Environmental Health Registration Board
- EHORB Certificate of Registration or EHP status with CIEH (or willingness to register within 18 months of appointment)
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with confident report writing
- Good knowledge of environmental health issues
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and work independently to targets
- Strong teamworking, decision-making, and customer care skills
- Competent IT skills, including standard office and specialist software
