Environmental Health Officer

I am working with a Local Authority in Hertfordshire who are seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to provide support across both Environmental Protection and Private Sector Housing functions on an interim basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded officer who is comfortable managing a varied caseload and can hit the ground running across a range of regulatory services.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve statutory nuisance complaints, including noise, odour, smoke and other environmental issues.
• Undertake Environmental Protection enforcement and compliance activities.
• Process and comment on premises licence applications and Temporary Event Notices (TENs).
• Provide technical input on planning consultations and development proposals.
• Carry out Private Sector Housing inspections and investigations.
• Assess housing conditions using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
• Investigate complaints relating to housing standards and disrepair.
• Take enforcement action where required, including the service of statutory notices.
• Liaise with residents, businesses, landlords, agents and internal stakeholders.
• Prepare professional reports, correspondence and case records.

Essential Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent qualification).
• Previous Local Authority Environmental Health experience.
• Strong background in both Private Sector Housing and Environmental Protection.
• Experience dealing with:
  • Statutory Nuisance
  • Noise and Environmental Protection investigations
  • Premises Licences
  • Temporary Event Notices (TENs)
  • Housing Standards and HHSRS
  • Enforcement and legal processes
• Ability to manage a varied and busy caseload.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• EHRB/CIEH registration.
• Experience with HMO licensing and enforcement.
• Planning consultation experience.
• Recent Local Authority contract experience.
