TXM Recruit is recruiting an experienced Estimating Engineer for a permanent opportunity within a high-precision manufacturing environment in Lymington. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong machining knowledge who can translate engineering drawings and customer requirements into accurate, competitive and commercially viable quotations.
The opportunity
As an Estimating Engineer, you will manage new opportunities from the initial RFQ stage, developing robust manufacturing methods, costs and quotations. You will work closely with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal engineering teams to support the successful introduction of new products into manufacture. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing accurate, competitive and commercially viable quotations
- Reviewing engineering drawings and identifying suitable manufacturing methods
- Calculating CNC and manual machining cycle times
- Defining tooling, jig, fixture and process requirements
- Estimating material, treatment, subcontract and production costs
- Identifying and engaging suitable suppliers and subcontractors
- Researching unfamiliar coatings, heat treatments and manufacturing processes
- Supporting technical and design-for-manufacture discussions with customers
- Ensuring quotations and new products meet cost and profitability targets
- Supporting APQP activities and new-product introduction
- Providing technical input during project and contract reviews
- Coordinating with Engineering, Quality, Production, Projects and Supply Chain
The successful candidate should have:
- At least five years’ experience in estimating, manufacturing engineering or a similar technical role
- Strong practical knowledge of CNC and conventional machining
- The ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
- Experience calculating machining cycle times and production costs
- Knowledge of machine capabilities, tooling strategies, jigs and fixtures
- Experience machining or costing a broad range of engineering materials
- Familiarity with subcontract coatings and heat-treatment processes
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of manufacturing profitability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple RFQs
- The unrestricted right to live and work in the UK
Working hours Monday to Thursday: 7:30am–4:30pm
Friday: 8:00am–1:00pm The role includes a 30-minute lunch break.
