Estimator - Electricity Transmission & Distribution
 
Location: Remote (London is where the client office is)

Rate/Salary: £500 - £600 per day
 
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator to support the delivery of major electricity Transmission & Distribution projects, working across National Grid and high-voltage infrastructure programmes.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for an Estimator with experience in the power, utilities or energy sector to become involved in major UK infrastructure projects, including substations, HV cabling and associated civil and electrical works.
 
The Role
 
Working as part of the estimating and pre-construction team, you will be responsible for developing robust and accurate estimates across different stages of the project lifecycle.
 
Responsibilities will include:
 
·Preparing detailed estimates for major T&D and electrical infrastructure projects
·Producing estimates from first principles across labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages
·Reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and tender documentation
·Undertaking quantity take-offs for civil and electrical works
·Supporting estimates for HV substations, cable routes and associated infrastructure
·Obtaining and analysing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
·Producing cost plans, tender submissions and commercial proposals
·Reviewing subcontractor and supplier pricing
·Identifying project risks and incorporating appropriate risk and contingency allowances
·Working closely with engineering, commercial, procurement and project delivery teams
·Developing and maintaining cost models and benchmarking information
·Supporting value engineering and cost optimisation throughout the tender process

About You
 
We are interested in speaking with Estimators who have experience within electricity transmission, distribution, power or major utilities infrastructure.
 
Ideally, you will have:
 
·Previous estimating experience within T&D, power or utilities
·Experience with HV substations and/or HV cable projects
·Knowledge of electrical infrastructure at 132kV, 275kV and/or 400kV
·Experience producing estimates from first principles
·Strong understanding of civil and/or electrical construction costs
·Experience reviewing drawings, specifications and scopes of work
·Knowledge of labour, plant, material and subcontractor pricing
·Experience preparing tenders for major infrastructure projects
·Understanding of project risk, contingency and cost forecasting
·Strong Excel and estimating/software skills
Previous experience working directly with National Grid, or for a contractor/consultancy delivering National Grid projects, would be highly advantageous.
 
Experience across substations, underground cables, overhead lines (OHL), primary plant, protection & control or associated civils would also be of particular interest.
