We are recruiting on behalf of a growing civil engineering contractor based in Accrington for an experienced Estimator to join their pre-construction team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with a strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure projects who is looking to play a key role in securing and delivering a diverse portfolio of works.
The Role
Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for a range of civil engineering projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and contract documents.
- Producing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions.
- Obtaining and evaluating quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Identifying risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions.
- Preparing take-offs and bills of quantities.
- Liaising with clients, consultants and the wider commercial team.
- Attending pre-tender and post-tender meetings.
- Maintaining accurate records of estimates and tender outcomes.
Requirements
- Previous experience as an Estimator within the civil engineering sector.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction methods and costs.
- Experience pricing projects including highways, infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, utilities, public realm or Section 278 works.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software.
Desirable
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Experience working for a main contractor or specialist civil engineering contractor.
- Knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
