An Exciting Opportunity to Make Your Mark

We are delighted to be supporting a successful and well-established organisation with the appointment of an experienced Estimator to join their growing commercial team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and commercially minded Estimator who is looking for more than simply a job. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to bring their existing experience, knowledge and ideas into the business, while also having the freedom to put their own stamp on the role and contribute to the continued development of the estimating function.

You will play a key role in reviewing and triaging incoming enquiries, interpreting technical drawings and specifications, assessing project requirements and preparing accurate, commercially competitive estimates.

We are particularly interested in someone who is confident working with technical drawings and CAD, with the ability to navigate drawings in both 2D and 3D and use this information to understand project scope, quantities, materials and commercial requirements.

The role will suit someone who enjoys getting into the detail of a project, asking the right questions, identifying potential issues early and using their experience to make informed commercial decisions.

You will work closely with Sales, Design, Operations, Logistics, suppliers and customers, making this a varied role with genuine influence across the business.

This is a fabulous opportunity to join a well-established and successful company that can offer long-term career development, progression and the opportunity to grow with the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assess incoming project enquiries, drawings and specifications to determine scope, requirements and commercial considerations.
  • Triage incoming enquiries, assessing their suitability, complexity, timescales and commercial potential before determining the appropriate estimating approach.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates and quotations using company estimating systems.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schedules and specifications to establish accurate project requirements and pricing.
  • Confidently navigate and interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings, extracting relevant information to support accurate estimating.
  • Identify quantities, materials, specifications and potential project requirements from technical information.
  • Review drawings and project information critically, identifying discrepancies, omissions or areas requiring clarification.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain competitive quotations, product information and lead times.
  • Evaluate supplier pricing and identify opportunities for cost savings and commercial efficiencies.
  • Carry out Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) to monitor project financial performance and profitability.
  • Support Main Contract Reviews, including programme requirements, delivery schedules and commercial obligations.
  • Monitor project profitability through regular monthly commercial reviews.
  • Assist with procurement activities and supplier negotiations where required.
  • Work collaboratively with Sales Estimating, Design, Operations and Logistics teams to support successful project delivery.
  • Use your experience and commercial judgement to challenge assumptions, identify risks and improve the accuracy of estimates.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and project information across CRM and business management systems.
  • Support effective project handovers to operational teams, ensuring all commercial and estimating information is complete and accurate.
  • Contribute ideas and improvements to estimating processes, systems and ways of working.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with company procedures, quality standards and ISO requirements.

About You

We are looking for a confident, experienced Estimator who is comfortable taking ownership of an enquiry from initial review through to quotation and handover.

You will have previous experience of triaging jobs and enquiries, understanding which opportunities require further investigation, identifying what information is needed and determining how best to approach the estimate.

You will also be confident working with technical drawings, with the ability to interpret detailed project information and navigate CAD drawings in both 2D and 3D.

Importantly, we are looking for someone who can bring their own experience and ideas to the role. This is an opportunity for someone to have a genuine influence rather than simply following an established process.

You will ideally be someone who enjoys asking “Is there a better way of doing this?” and is confident enough to put forward ideas, challenge processes constructively and help develop the estimating function.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Confident and experienced within an estimating or commercially focused environment.
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Commercially minded with strong analytical and numerical abilities.
  • Experienced in triaging incoming enquiries and assessing project requirements.
  • Confident interpreting technical drawings, schedules and specifications.
  • Comfortable navigating 2D and 3D CAD drawings.
  • Able to extract accurate information from drawings and use it to develop estimates.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
  • A confident communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Comfortable taking ownership and making informed commercial decisions.
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working cross-functionally.
  • Someone who can bring new ideas, experience and a fresh perspective to an established business.
  • Competent using Microsoft Office and estimating or business management software.
  • Committed to delivering consistently high standards of accuracy, quality and customer service.

Desirable Experience

The following experience would be advantageous:

  • Previous estimating experience within construction, civil engineering, manufacturing or a technical environment.
  • Experience within construction materials, hard landscaping or a related sector.
  • Experience preparing commercial cost estimates and quotations.
  • Practical experience using CAD in both 2D and 3D.
  • Strong experience reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Experience of triaging and prioritising incoming enquiries.
  • Experience carrying out Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR).
  • Knowledge of contract administration and commercial project management.
  • Experience working with international supply chains and overseas manufacturers.
  • Experience identifying opportunities for process improvement or developing estimating procedures.

What’s on Offer?

  • Competitive salary of £40,000 – £50,000, dependent on experience.
  • Monday to Thursday, 8:30am – 5:30pm.
  • Early finish on Fridays at 4:30pm.
  • 21 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Bonus scheme based on company profitability.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Hybrid working flexibility.
  • Health and wellbeing programme.
  • Company social events.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Excellent opportunities for career development and future progression.
  • The opportunity to put your own stamp on the role and influence how the estimating function develops.
  • The chance to join a well-established and successful organisation with a strong long-term future.

Ready for Your Next Step?

If you are an experienced Estimator looking for a new challenge where you can make a real commercial impact, bring your experience and ideas to the table, and have genuine ownership of your role, we would love to hear from you.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established and growing business where your experience will be valued, your ideas will be welcomed and there is genuine scope for long-term career progression.
