Estimator – Civil Engineering

Lemon Drizzle Recruitment is proud to be exclusively representing a well-established civil engineering, build and steel contractor delivering projects across infrastructure, highways, industrial, energy, ports, flood defence and public realm sectors. With a strong pipeline of secured work and ambitious growth plans targeting £75m turnover, they are looking to strengthen their pre-construction team with the appointment of an Estimator.

The Role

Working as part of a growing pre-construction team, you'll play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive and commercially robust tenders for a wide range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Estimating Director, you will review tender documentation, undertake take-offs, obtain and assess subcontractor quotations, and contribute to the production of high-quality tender submissions.

Projects range across highways, infrastructure, energy, ports, industrial developments, flood defence and public realm schemes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and tender submissions from first principles
  • Carry out quantity take-offs and cost planning exercises
  • Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation
  • Lead supply chain enquiries and assess subcontractor quotations
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering options
  • Prepare pricing information for tender reviews and adjudications
  • Work closely with planning, design, commercial and operational teams
  • Produce detailed handover information for successful projects
  • Support the delivery of accurate, compliant and commercially competitive tenders

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in an Estimator role within civil engineering, infrastructure or construction
  • Strong understanding of tendering, measurement and pricing
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and bills of quantities
  • Good commercial awareness
  • Experience using estimating software (Causeway) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contracts would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
