The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for an Estimator or Senior Estimator to join an established construction contractor, working across a varied portfolio of building projects, including new-build developments, refurbishment, extensions and alteration works.

The role will involve pricing projects from initial tender through to submission, assessing construction costs and obtaining competitive quotations to support the successful delivery of commercially robust bids. You will work closely with the pre-construction, commercial and operational teams, contributing to projects across different sectors and levels of complexity.

This is an opportunity for an Estimator to gain exposure to a diverse project portfolio, develop their technical and commercial knowledge, and play an important role in securing new work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and tender submissions for a range of construction projects.
  • Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and tender documentation.
  • Undertake quantity take-offs and calculate labour, material, plant and subcontract costs.
  • Price new-build schemes, refurbishment projects, extensions, internal alterations and structural works.
  • Obtain, assess and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.
  • Identify project-specific risks, potential cost savings, exclusions and value-engineering opportunities.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and internal teams to clarify scope and pricing requirements.
  • Work with the commercial and operational teams to develop appropriate tender strategies.
  • Monitor tender deadlines and coordinate information to ensure submissions are completed accurately and on time.
  • Attend tender review meetings and assist with the commercial handover of successful projects.
  • Maintain estimating records, cost databases and historical pricing information.

About You

  • Previous experience in a Senior Estimator, Estimator or Assistant Estimator role within the construction industry.
  • Experience pricing building projects, ideally across new-build and refurbishment works.
  • Good understanding of construction methods, materials, subcontract packages and procurement.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Commercially aware, with an eye for detail and the ability to identify pricing risks.
  • Confident communicating with subcontractors, suppliers and project teams.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel and relevant estimating software.
  • A relevant construction or Quantity Surveying qualification would be advantageous.
