Estimator / Senior Estimator – Main Contractor

Location: Newcastle
Salary: Up to £75,000 + package, with Senior Estimator opportunities up to £85,000

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator or Senior Estimator to join an established and ambitious main contractor based in Newcastle.

The business has a strong reputation for delivering major construction schemes across the region, with a diverse portfolio covering residential, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, leisure, public sector and other major construction projects.

Due to continued growth and a strong forward order book, they are looking to appoint an experienced Estimator or Senior Estimator to join their pre-construction team and work on projects ranging from approximately £15m to £50m.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator looking to take the next step in their career, or an established Senior Estimator looking to join a business with a strong pipeline of larger and more complex schemes.

The Role

• Lead and manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through to final tender submission.
• Price major construction projects ranging from approximately £15m to £50m across a variety of sectors.
• Review drawings, specifications, employer's requirements and tender documentation.
• Complete detailed quantity take-offs and prepare accurate project rates.
• Obtain, analyse and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Identify commercial risks, opportunities and potential value engineering opportunities.
• Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and clients throughout the tender process.
• Attend tender interviews, client meetings, site visits and pre-construction meetings.
• Prepare detailed tender submissions and supporting documentation.
• Work closely with the pre-construction, commercial and operational teams.
• Manage multiple tenders and ensure submissions are delivered within required timescales.

About You

• Proven experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator with a main contractor.
• Strong experience within the building and construction sector.
• Experience pricing projects between £15m and £50m.
• Experience across a broad range of construction sectors would be advantageous.
• Strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing and buildability.
• Excellent knowledge of subcontractor procurement and supply chains.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify risk and opportunity.
• Excellent numerical ability, attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Experience with relevant estimating and take-off software.
• Relevant construction, surveying or commercial qualifications would be advantageous.
