An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estimator to join a growing civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering a range of projects across South Wales and the wider UK.
The successful candidate will play a key role within the pre-construction and commercial team, preparing competitive and commercially robust estimates and tenders for civil engineering, utilities and infrastructure projects.
This role would suit an Estimator with a strong contractor background who is looking to join an ambitious business with an expanding workload and opportunities for long-term progression. Experience within the water, utilities, civils or infrastructure sectors would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
- Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scope of works.
- Analyse project requirements and identify potential risks, opportunities and commercial considerations.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates covering labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and other project costs.
- Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Develop detailed bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
- Work closely with the commercial, operational and pre-construction teams throughout the tender process.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative construction methodologies.
- Assist with the preparation of tender submissions and supporting documentation.
- Attend tender meetings, site visits and clarification meetings where required.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working as an Estimator within civil engineering, construction or infrastructure.
- Contractor-side estimating experience.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and project delivery.
- Experience pricing labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to strict deadlines.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Competent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Desirable
- Experience within water, utilities, highways or infrastructure.
- Experience working on NEC3 or NEC4 contracts.
- Experience pricing frameworks and term contracts.
- HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
- Experience using estimating or quantity surveying software.
- Experience working with utility clients or major infrastructure frameworks.

- Confident communicating with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Able to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
- Proactive in identifying risks and opportunities.
