An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estimator to join a growing civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering a range of projects across South Wales and the wider UK.

The successful candidate will play a key role within the pre-construction and commercial team, preparing competitive and commercially robust estimates and tenders for civil engineering, utilities and infrastructure projects.

This role would suit an Estimator with a strong contractor background who is looking to join an ambitious business with an expanding workload and opportunities for long-term progression. Experience within the water, utilities, civils or infrastructure sectors would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scope of works.
  • Analyse project requirements and identify potential risks, opportunities and commercial considerations.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates covering labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and other project costs.
  • Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Develop detailed bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
  • Work closely with the commercial, operational and pre-construction teams throughout the tender process.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative construction methodologies.
  • Assist with the preparation of tender submissions and supporting documentation.
  • Attend tender meetings, site visits and clarification meetings where required.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience working as an Estimator within civil engineering, construction or infrastructure.
  • Contractor-side estimating experience.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and project delivery.
  • Experience pricing labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Competent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Desirable

  • Experience within water, utilities, highways or infrastructure.
  • Experience working on NEC3 or NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience pricing frameworks and term contracts.
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
  • Experience using estimating or quantity surveying software.
  • Experience working with utility clients or major infrastructure frameworks.

  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
