Salary: £25,877 - £29,000 per annum (DOE)
Location: Peripatetic – covering locations across Devon
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full Time – 37 hours per week
  
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a compassionate and motivated Ex-Offender Mentor to join their Justice and Social Care team.
In this rewarding role, you'll support individuals from the beginning of their sentence through to successful reintegration into the community. Working across both custody and community settings, you'll provide tailored guidance, practical support and encouragement to help participants overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve positive, lasting outcomes.
Managing your own caseload, you'll deliver a combination of one-to-one support and group interventions that promote wellbeing, develop life skills and reduce the likelihood of reoffending.
We welcome applications from individuals with experience in health and social care, mental health, housing, substance misuse, youth work, community support, or from Criminal Justice graduates looking to begin a rewarding career within the justice sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of participants across custody and community settings, providing tailored advice, guidance and practical support.
  • Complete initial assessments and develop personalised action plans.
  • Deliver pre-release and Through the Gate support.
  • Provide one-to-one support, facilitate group interventions and deliver motivational coaching.
  • Support participants to access employment, education, housing, healthcare and wider community services.
  • Build effective relationships with external agencies to improve participant outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate case records, reports and performance data.
  • Work towards individual and team performance targets.
  • Effectively manage risk in partnership with the Probation Service.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Work collaboratively with peer mentors and volunteers to maximise participant support.
Please note: Due to the peripatetic nature of the role, regular travel across the Devon cluster is required, with occasional travel across the wider South West to support service delivery.

We're looking for someone who is empathetic, resilient and confident building positive relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience supporting individuals with complex or multiple needs.
  • Experience delivering one-to-one support and/or facilitating group interventions.
  • Ability to motivate and empower individuals to make positive changes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience maintaining accurate records and using case management systems.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, risk management and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and achieve performance targets.
Desirable
  • Level 3 Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) qualification.
  • Experience within criminal justice, probation, rehabilitation or offender services.
  • Knowledge of local employment, education, training and support services.
