Experienced Civil Design Engineer (Drainage) in Edinburgh

I'm working with a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy that is looking to strengthen its drainage and infrastructure team with an experienced Drainage Engineer.

The business works across a broad range of major infrastructure, development, highways, masterplanning and renewable energy projects, giving you the opportunity to work on varied and technically challenging schemes.

This role would suit a drainage-focused Civil Engineer looking to take on greater technical responsibility while developing their project, client and commercial management experience.

You'll be involved in the delivery of drainage design packages from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction, working closely with highways, structures, utilities, environmental and geotechnical teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing highway and surface water drainage systems for new-build, improvement and major infrastructure schemes
• Developing drainage strategies from feasibility through to detailed design and construction
• Designing pipe networks, carrier drains, culverts, filter drains, linear drainage and outfalls
• Designing attenuation and storage systems, including swales, ponds, wetlands and other SuDS features
• Undertaking rainfall/runoff calculations and assessing design storms and climate change allowances
• Hydraulic calculations and network modelling using Causeway Flow and/or InfoDrainage
• Assessing drainage capacity, surcharge, flooding and exceedance flows
• Coordinating drainage design with highways, earthworks, structures, utilities, landscaping and environmental requirements
• Assessing existing drainage infrastructure and identifying capacity constraints and opportunities for improvement
• Producing accurate models, drawings, calculations, reports and technical submissions
• Supporting technical reviews and ensuring designs meet relevant standards and project requirements
• Attending client meetings, workshops and site visits
• Supporting junior engineers and sharing technical knowledge within the team

We're looking for someone with a strong background in drainage, water and infrastructure engineering, ideally with experience across highways and/or major infrastructure projects.

You'll ideally have:

• Strong drainage design experience within a consultancy environment
• Good knowledge of highway drainage and SuDS
• Strong experience using Causeway Flow and/or InfoDrainage
• Competence using Civil 3D
• Good understanding of relevant drainage, highway and water standards and guidance
• Experience with documents and standards such as Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works, Specification for Highway Works, Sewers for Scotland and CIRIA guidance
• Experience producing drainage calculations, drawings, reports and technical submissions
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with clients and wider project teams
• A full UK driving licence
• Ideally working towards IEng or CEng status
