Expression of Interest: Design Manager 

Sir Robert McAlpine, through Integrated Health Projects (IHP), our long-standing joint venture with VINCI Building, has been appointed to deliver the new Leighton Hospital in Crewe as part of the Government's New Hospital Programme. 

This is a major opportunity to join the team at the early stages of one of the UK's most significant healthcare programmes. The new hospital will replace the existing Leighton Hospital and will be delivered using the Hospital 2.0 approach, bringing together standardised design, digital innovation, clinical leadership and collaborative delivery to create a modern healthcare environment for patients, staff and the wider community. 

We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced Design Managers who want to play a key role in the delivery of this major programme.

The Role: 

The Design team will deliver technically compliant, cost-efficient design solutions as part of the new Hospitals 2.0 programme. You'll assist with submissions and have an excellent appreciation of the clients' needs, ensuring that all questions have been answered in full, providing a commercial solution with the best possible chance of success. 

• Establish the quality of the design and verify the stage of design development and whether any elements of the design do not comply with the Employer's Requirements. 

• Identify, detail and evaluate areas where the compliant design could be improved such that a better value solution could be offered in the project / tender submission. 

• Assess, in conjunction with the planning team, the suitability of the proposed design about the proposed method and sequence of construction and provide advice regarding proposed changes to the design. 

• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver innovative, compliant solutions. 

• Ensure adherence to statutory requirements, planning permissions, Building Regulations, CDM regulations, and contract-specific standards. 

• Identify opportunities for design improvement and manage risks effectively. 

Your Profile: 

You will have: 

• We're looking for a driven individual who thrives on complexity and client engagement 

• Experience in design management for large-scale projects (£100m+), ideally healthcare. 

• Strong knowledge of CDM and Building Regulations. 

• Expertise in P23, NEC3 contracts, and healthcare sector delivery.
