Facilities Technician – East London


Salary: (£29,873–£32,855)
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday (shift basis) Currently 7AM - 3Pm
Overtime: Paid overtime and occasional emergency callouts required ( OT is x1.5)
Annual Leave: 25 days + statutory bank holidays

 

The Facilities Technician will assist in the general maintenance of the school building, ensuring a clean, safe, and secure environment while providing effective support to staff, students, and visitors

 

The Role

We are looking for a practical, reliable and proactive Facilities Technician to help maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment for our students, staff and visitors.

You will support the day-to-day maintenance and smooth running of the Academy, using a broad range of practical and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general building maintenance, including joinery, plumbing, electrical work, painting and decorating.

  • Operate and maintain building systems and equipment, including heating, air conditioning, pumps, BMS, access control and kitchen equipment.

  • Complete essential facilities checks, including fire alarms, legionella, pest control and equipment servicing.

  • Act as a key holder and support building security, including fire and intruder alarm response.

  • Set up and rearrange furniture for exams, meetings, assemblies and events.

  • Receive, record and distribute supplies.

  • Manage maintenance requests through the online helpdesk and respond promptly to staff requests.

  • Support contractors and work with the Academy’s event management partner.

  • Follow health & safety, safeguarding, fire and emergency procedures.

  • Assist with First Aid and fire evacuation duties (training provided).

  • Drive the Academy minibus when required.

  • Undertake other duties that support the effective running of the Academy.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in facilities or building maintenance (desirable).

  • Practical skills in plumbing, electrical work, building maintenance and plant equipment.

  • A positive, customer-focused approach and excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and prioritise effectively.

  • Good teamwork and communication skills.

  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual work.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • First Aid, facilities or equipment-related qualifications are desirable, but training will be provided.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and the Academy’s values.
