Location: Swindon Area (multi-site working may be required)
Contract Type: Full Time. Temporary role
Salary: £17 - £18 per hour
Hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and reliable Facilities Technician to join our Education Provision team. This is a varied and hands-on role responsible for ensuring buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities are maintained to a high standard, creating a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Working closely with site leaders and operational teams, you will oversee day-to-day maintenance activities, coordinate contractors, support health and safety compliance, and contribute to ongoing improvement projects across the provision.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical maintenance experience, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality facilities services within an educational setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilities Maintenance
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance tasks across buildings and grounds.
- Lead on minor repairs, refurbishment projects, and site improvement works.
- Monitor the condition of facilities and identify maintenance requirements.
- Maintain a rolling programme of decoration, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure premises remain clean, tidy, safe, and well-presented at all times.
- Manage waste disposal, litter clearance, and replenishment of site consumables.
- Coordinate and supervise external contractors, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and statutory compliance checks.
Site Operations and Security
- Act as a key holder and respond to site call-outs when required.
- Manage site opening and closing procedures.
- Monitor and maintain security systems, alarms, gates, and access controls.
- Liaise with emergency services when necessary.
- Ensure all security measures are operating effectively and report any concerns promptly.
Health and Safety
- Support the delivery of a safe working and learning environment.
- Conduct routine inspections and risk assessments.
- Assist with statutory compliance activities and follow up on any corrective actions.
- Ensure fire safety equipment, emergency lighting, alarms, and associated systems are regularly checked and recorded.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety across the site.
- Report accidents, incidents, and near misses in accordance with procedures.
- Support site readiness during adverse weather conditions.
Fleet and Equipment
- Carry out regular vehicle safety checks and coordinate servicing requirements.
- Support transport operations when required.
- Maintain inventories of tools, equipment, plant, and site assets.
- Ensure equipment is inspected, maintained, and safe for use.
General Support
- Undertake porterage duties including moving furniture, equipment, and deliveries.
- Support seasonal activities and events across the provision.
- Provide assistance across multiple sites when required.
Essential Requirements:
- GCSE English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above).
- Full, clean driving licence.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within a facilities environment.
- Knowledge of building maintenance and plant systems.
- Awareness of fire safety procedures and equipment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexible, self-motivated, and willing to learn.
