Reports to: Features & Content Lead / Event Director
Salary: £25,000 Permanent
Employment: Full-time
About The Assembly
The Assembly is an independent events and media business creating ambitious, audience-led brands across the professional hair, creative and lifestyle industries.
Our Hair portfolio includes HairCon, Creative HEAD, FADED, the Most Wanted Awards, IT List Awards, Salon Smart and Runway.
HairCon is our high-energy, content-led trade event for the professional hair and barbering industry. It brings together the brands, people, ideas and education shaping the future of hair.
We are looking for a Features Assistant to join the HairCon team and help deliver content and experiences that make the event genuinely unmissable.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an organised, creative and highly motivated individual who wants to build a career in events, editorial and content.
Working closely with the Features & Content Lead and wider HairCon team, you will help research, develop and deliver the editorial features, educational content, speakers, sessions and experiences that sit at the heart of HairCon.
You will be involved in everything from researching potential contributors and chasing content for existing partners, to supporting speaker management, writing copy and helping bring features to life across the event and its marketing channels.
You'll need to be highly organised, confident communicating with people and genuinely interested in the professional hair and barbering industry.
Key Responsibilities
Features & Content
- Support the development and delivery of HairCon's features, sessions, talks and educational content.
- Research potential speakers, contributors, brands, experts and industry stories.
- Assist with writing, editing and proofing editorial and event content.
- Help develop ideas for new features and experiences that will engage the HairCon audience.
- Support the creation of website, email, social and event copy.
- Maintain content schedules, deadlines and contributor information.
- Research industry trends, news and emerging talent to help keep HairCon content fresh and relevant.
Speaker & Contributor Management
- Manage communication with speakers and contributors, ensuring they have all relevant information.
- Coordinate biographies, headshots, session descriptions and other required assets.
- Support briefing speakers ahead of the event, and help manage speaker schedules and requirements onsite.
Event Delivery
- Support the Features & Content Lead in delivering HairCon's live programme.
- Liaise with confirmed exhibitors, partners, speakers and the production team who are involved in the live programme.
- Be a visible and proactive member of the HairCon team onsite. Help ensure sessions and features run smoothly during the event.
Marketing & Communications
- Support email campaigns and promotional activity around features and speakers.
- Identify opportunities to amplify speakers, brands and event content before, during and after HairCon.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about hair, beauty, barbering, fashion, culture and creativity.
- Naturally curious and always looking for the next interesting story, person or idea.
- A confident communicator who is comfortable speaking to industry professionals.
- Highly organised, detail-focused and able to manage multiple deadlines.
- A strong writer with excellent spelling and grammar.
- Creative and able to come up with ideas rather than simply execute a brief.
- Proactive, enthusiastic and willing to get stuck in.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Happy working both independently and as part of a small, ambitious team.
- Comfortable working onsite at events, including occasional early starts and evenings.
Previous experience in editorial, content, events, PR, media or the hair/beauty industry would be beneficial, but attitude, creativity and organisation are equally important.
What You'll Get
- The opportunity to work on the UK's most exciting new professional hair event.
- The opportunity to build relationships with leading names across the hair and barbering industry.
- The chance to contribute ideas and genuinely shape the HairCon experience.
- The opportunity to develop your career within a growing independent events and media business.
- A collaborative, energetic and creative working environment.
The Person We're Looking For
We're not looking for someone who simply wants an office job.
We're looking for someone who wants to be part of creating something.
Someone who sees an interesting barber on Instagram and wants to know their story. Someone who hears about a new movement in hair and thinks, we should have that at HairCon. Someone who loves bringing people together, isn't afraid to pick up the phone and can keep 20 moving parts organised at once.
If you're creative, curious, switched-on and obsessed with great content and great events, we'd love to hear from you.
How to Apply
Please send your CV along with a short covering note explaining why HairCon interests you and what you could bring to the role to Michael, Co-Founder of The Assembly
