We have a wonderful opportunity to join a new directly employed care team working with an inspirational and determined young lady who lives within her family home in a village location about 9 miles from Stafford and 16 miles from Stoke-On-Trent.

The Client

Chloe is a 17 year old young woman with Cerebral Palsy from birth which causes mobility difficulties and, although she can walk short distances with help, she generally uses a wheelchair to get around.  She suffers with sudden involuntary movements of her limbs as a result of the Cerebral Palsy.  Although Chloe has a device to support her communication, she prefers to use speech but at times this can be quite unclear. Chloe requires help with all areas

of personal care and needs support with eating and drinking too. Chloe is an amazing and determined young woman with a great sense of humour and a passion for being active.  We are therefore looking for additional Support Workers to join this newly appointed care team who will help Chloe to continue in her sporting interests and other hobbies and who will support her in her everyday life.

Interests & Hobbies

Chloe is a truly exceptional young athlete; she is a classified T71 Para Athelete and is aiming to complete in the next Olympics in frame running.  She also takes part in Powerchair Football for Birmingham City FC. 

Chloe could be described as a bit of an adrenaline junky and is often found whizzing around in her wheelchair at speed however she also enjoys relaxing at home watching movies. She loves days out and trips away and has particularly enjoyed travelling in the family’s campervan and stays at Centre Parcs recently.

Chloe is a determined and strong character who knows what she likes and what she doesn’t.  She has a great sense of humour and is a bit of a joker and we are looking for Support Workers who will share her zest for life.

The Role

• Candidates should have a genuine interest and passion in supporting Chloe as she grows in her independence as a young adult and should be active and sporty to ensure they share Chloe’s energy and enthusiasm.
• Good listening and clear verbal communication skills, with the patience and confidence to ensure Chloe is understood and fully involved in decisions about her day are vital. 
• You will be required to promote Chloe’s independence while providing safe, practical support.

This will be a rewarding role for candidates who are interested in supporting Client not just in their daily routines, but also in their sporting interests and social, travel and leisure activities; you should be able to offer the flexibility to accompany Chloe on trips.

The role will also involve working with Chloe’s therapy team to support and implement her therapy programmes and there is a requirement that client-related domestic tasks may be undertaken as part of the role.

Previous experience of Support Worker is not essential as full training will be given to the right candidates.  You will need to be outgoing, confident, sociable, reliable and honest and have the ability to maintain professional boundaries when working closely with a Client within their own home.

Candidates must hold a full, clean UK driving licence and be happy to drive the client’s large WAV vehicle.
