Fibre Engineer

We're recruiting for a Fibre Engineer on behalf of a leading rail infrastructure contractor. The successful candidate will initially be deployed on a long-term project in the North West of England.
As a Fibre Engineer, you'll be responsible for installing, testing, fault finding and commissioning fibre optic telecommunications systems across the rail network. Working alongside the Lead Installation & Test Engineer or PICOT, you'll help deliver high-quality projects safely and in accordance with Network Rail standards.
Key Responsibilities

Install, test and commission fibre optic cabling and telecommunications systems.

Carry out OTDR and Insertion Loss testing.

Diagnose fibre faults and complete remedial works.

Install and commission trackside telecoms equipment.

Interpret SLDs, AFC drawings and technical documentation.

Complete site diaries, test records and commissioning documentation.

Support testing, commissioning and migration activities.

Promote high standards of safety, quality and workmanship.

Support junior engineers when required.
Requirements
You'll have proven experience in fibre optic installation and testing, with strong OTDR, Insertion Loss testing and fibre fault-finding skills. Experience working with both single fibre and ribbon fibre is essential, along with the ability to interpret technical drawings and work throughout the full project lifecycle from installation through to commissioning.
You'll also have previous supervisory or team-leading experience and hold a full UK driving licence.
