Duration: Approved until 31dec27 (renewable)

Morson Edge are working on behalf of a major player in the Energy Sector who have a contract requirement for a Mechanical Field Engineer to join their established site based team. All work is associated with the Nuclear New Build Project in North Somerset and presents the successful candidate with an opportunity to gain unique experience contributing to one of Europe's largest infrastructure Projects.

Typical Accountabilities

  • The Mechanical Field Engineer is responsible for the surveillance of quality compliance within the designated section of the Contractor Works in accordance with Project requirements.

o Activities are related to the mechanical Construction / Installation / Assembly of Mechanical Equipment (such as Static & Rotating Equipment, Pipes, Pipes Support, including the welding process etc ...).

You will be required to :

  • Check the Works are constructed in accordance with the Contractor's Work Information escalating deviation and non-conformance request requirements when necessary.
  • Proactively communicate with other stakeholders of the considered scope of work, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported.
  • Endeavour to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions
  • Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works
  • Enhance the team with a good perspective of current and future site activities.
  • Ensure tasks are developed in accordance with the company's requirement for health, safety and environment.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of contractual Technical Requirements, construction drawings, construction activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records
  • Ensure Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before Works are covered up
  • Review Contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential

  • A Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent), vocational training and significant experience and / or welding qualifications vocational training and significant experience.
  • Experience in the installation / erection of large Mechanical Equipment
  • Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the materials, trades methods and legal requirements
  • Broad knowledge of Quality Assurance Requirements (such as ISO9001)
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills with the ability to develop appropriate working relationships with the contractors and other stakeholders .
  • Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the particular form of contract
  • Good attention to detail when checking work, equipment and materials

Desirable

  • Proven track record of working within a large construction team
  • General understanding of the posts obligations under CDM Regulations - along with an understanding of the document and drawing approvals processes
  • Experience in the use of electronic hand held devices to capture information
