Financial Controller

Location - Manchester

Salary/Package - £50,000 - £65,000 + Package



About the Company

Our client is a growing and diversified Manchester-based group operating across construction, property development, facilities management, fire systems, waste management, scaffolding and concrete.

The business has grown into a multi-division organisation with a strong focus on quality, innovation and sustainable growth. Its construction and property operations deliver high-quality developments, while the wider group provides specialist services across the built environment.

Due to continued growth, the business is looking to strengthen its finance function with an experienced Financial Controller who can take ownership of key financial controls, reporting and commercial finance processes.



The Role

As Financial Controller, you will play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the business, providing accurate management information and supporting senior management with commercial and financial decision-making.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working within a growing, entrepreneurial environment and is comfortable operating across multiple areas of a diverse business.



Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the day-to-day financial management and accounting function

  • Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reporting

  • Producing budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections

  • Managing balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls

  • Monitoring working capital and cash flow

  • Overseeing purchase and sales ledger processes

  • Managing VAT, CIS and other statutory financial requirements

  • Supporting year-end accounts and external audit processes

  • Providing financial analysis and commercial insight to senior management

  • Monitoring project and company performance

  • Supporting cost control and margin analysis across construction and development activities

  • Managing WIP and project-related financial information

  • Reviewing financial systems and improving internal processes and controls

  • Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across the group

  • Working closely with operational and commercial teams

  • Supporting senior leadership with financial planning and decision-making

  • Managing and developing members of the finance team where required

  • Assisting with wider business improvement and finance projects



The Ideal Candidate

The successful Financial Controller will ideally have:

  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge

  • Experience within construction, property, development or another project-based environment

  • Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience

  • Experience with budgets, forecasts and cash flow management

  • Good understanding of WIP, project accounting and cost control

  • Strong Excel and financial systems skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Commercially minded approach with the ability to provide meaningful financial insight

  • Ability to work independently within a growing business

  • ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualification would be advantageous, although strong relevant experience will also be considered
