Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Finance Manager to take full responsibility for the accounting function across a multi-company organisation. Managing a small finance team, you will play a key role in maintaining the financial health of the business, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls, and supporting the company's continued growth and expansion. The successful candidate will be commercially minded, highly organised, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Take overall responsibility for the accounting functions, financial records, and reporting across the business.
  • Lead month-end processes, financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Produce monthly management accounts and ad hoc board reports.
  • Generate and analyse financial data to assess company performance and financial health.
  • Ensure all internal and external financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Maintain accurate accounting and payroll records.
  • Oversee cash management, ensuring payments and receipts are processed on time.
  • Prepare year-end figures and liaise with external auditors, HMRC, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns and administer deferred VAT/import duty accounts.
  • Prepare monthly sales reports and additional reporting required by the Board.
  • Maintain multi-currency nominal ledgers, including journal postings and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and oversee account reconciliations.
  • Calculate and approve quarterly bonus and commission calculations.
  • Manage purchase ledger activities, ensuring supplier payments are made in line with company policy.
  • Review depreciation journals and fixed asset registers.

Requirements & Experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience managing an accounts department or finance team.
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing finance staff.
  • Proven ability to work in a hands-on finance role and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong financial reporting, forecasting, and management accounting experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using Sage 200 Manufacturing is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of R&D tax claims and Patent Box legislation would be advantageous.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple responsibilities.
