We are looking for a Commercial Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function within an established, privately owned company. This is a broad, commercially focused role combining financial control, management accounts, forecasting, cash flow, commercial analysis and business partnering. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will work closely with the senior leadership team, providing financial insight to support operational and strategic decisions.
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm.
Fully office-based – no hybrid or work-from-home option
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts, annual budgets, rolling forecasts and cash flow forecasts.
- Manage daily cash flow, working capital, credit control and debtor performance.
- Oversee VAT, payroll, pensions, statutory reporting and financial compliance.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, finance providers and HMRC.
- Analyse customer, contract, project and divisional profitability, identifying margin improvement and revenue opportunities.
- Review pricing, produce financial models and assess investment/ROI opportunities.
- Provide project finance support including CIS, applications for payment, valuations, variations, retentions, final accounts and project cost reporting.
- Produce commercial and operational reporting covering revenue, margins, overheads, fleet, fuel, labour, disposal costs and KPIs.
- Strengthen financial controls, improve Sage and Excel reporting, enhance Purchase Order processes and drive finance efficiencies.
- Support strategic decisions, acquisitions, growth initiatives and present recommendations to Directors.
Essential Experience
· Previous experience as a Finance Manager, Commercial Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Senior Management Accountant.
· ACA, ACCA, CIMA or qualified by experience
· Strong Sage and Excel skills.
· Experience with management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow.
· Strong commercial awareness and analytical ability.
· Experience across multiple entities or Group companies.
· Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
· Experience within construction, waste, logistics, engineering, plant hire or another project-based environment
· CIS and project accounting knowledge
· Experience improving systems, processes and controls.
