Salary: £33,000–£38,000 per annum
Working hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00am–4:00pm
Holiday: 20 days annual leave + bank holidays
Location: Remote, with occasional office-based meetings
About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced and confident Finance Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day bookkeeping and finance function across the business.
This is a predominantly remote role, with some office-based meetings required from time to time. You will play an important role in keeping the accounts accurate, organised and fully up to date, while taking responsibility for a wide range of routine finance and compliance activities.
The successful candidate will be confident using Xero, have a strong understanding of VAT and CIS, and ideally have experience working with contractors and businesses operating within the construction sector.
A key part of the role will be taking more of the routine finance work away from the external accountant, helping to improve efficiency and potentially reduce accountancy costs. You will also act as the main point of contact with the external accountant where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-day bookkeeping across the business
Confident and accurate use of Xero
Bank and account reconciliations
Cash-flow management and forecasting
Credit control and debtor management
Paying contractors and suppliers
Supplier queries and payment runs
Keeping the accounts organised and fully up to date
Dealing with HMRC where appropriate
Taking routine finance work away from the external accountant
Acting as the main point of contact with the accountant where appropriate
Preparing clean and organised information for year-end accounts
VAT & CIS Responsibilities
Preparing and submitting VAT returns
Managing CIS administration
Handling domestic reverse charge VAT, particularly in relation to contractor and construction work
Checking and processing subcontractor payments correctly
Calculating and applying CIS deductions
Completing and submitting monthly CIS returns
Ensuring supplier and contractor invoices are treated correctly for VAT and CIS purposes
Liaising with HMRC regarding VAT, CIS and other relevant matters
Additional Finance Responsibilities
Managing expenses and company card reconciliations
Payroll and pensions, if required
Producing monthly P&L reports
Preparing simple management information to provide a clear picture of business performance
Monitoring cash flow and highlighting any potential issues
Supporting the wider business with finance-related queries
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
Have solid bookkeeping and finance experience
Be confident using Xero
Have a good understanding of VAT and CIS
Ideally have experience with domestic reverse charge VAT
Understand contractor and subcontractor payments
Be confident dealing with HMRC
Have excellent attention to detail
Be highly organised and able to keep financial records accurate and up to date
Be comfortable working independently in a remote environment
Have good communication skills and be confident liaising with suppliers, contractors and external accountants
Be proactive and able to identify and resolve issues rather than simply process transactions
Be commercially aware and comfortable producing basic management information
What We Offer
