Job purpose

To take ownership of the company’s finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls and effective management of cash flow, budgets and forecasts.

The Financial Controller will provide financial insight to senior management, support commercial decision making and help drive profitability and business growth.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
  • Monitor sales, margins, costs and overall business profitability
  • Manage cash flow and working capital
  • Oversee purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control
  • Monitor stock values, stock movements and inventory accuracy
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
  • Manage VAT returns and ensure financial compliance
  • Lead the year-end process and liaise with auditors and external accountants
  • Produce financial reports and KPIs for the senior management team
  • Provide commercial financial advice to support business decisions and growth
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve margins and streamline processes
  • Manage and develop the finance team
  • Maintain strong financial controls and improve finance systems and procedures

Key skills required

  • Fully qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA or CIMA
  • Previous experience within a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role
  • Strong management accounts, budgeting and forecasting experience
  • Excellent understanding of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to support business decisions
  • Strong knowledge of financial controls, VAT and statutory requirements
  • Confident working with senior management and presenting financial information
  • Excellent Excel skills and experience using accounting/ERP systems
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Organised and able to manage multiple deadlines
  • Proactive, ambitious and keen to progress and grow within the business
