The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate - Financial Crime Operations to join our Financial Crime team. This role is responsible for supporting the prevention, detection and investigation of financial crime risks across the Bank, ensuring compliance with UK regulatory requirements and internal policies.

You will play a key role in protecting the Bank from money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions breaches and fraud by conducting high-quality investigations, supporting operational improvements and working collaboratively with internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Transaction MonitoringInvestigate transaction monitoring alerts generated by automated monitoring systems.

Analyse customer transactional behaviour to identify unusual or suspicious activity.
Determine whether alerts represent genuine financial crime concerns or false positives.
Escalate suspicious activity through internal Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
Complete investigations within agreed service level agreements.
Fraud Risk Management
Investigate fraud alerts including APP fraud, mule account activity, impersonation and identity theft.
Identify emerging fraud trends and recommend control improvements.
Support fraud prevention initiatives across the Bank.
Customer Due Diligence (CDD/EDD)
Review complex customer onboarding cases and Enhanced Due Diligence documentation.
Assess high-risk customers and complex ownership structures.Verify Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs), directors, trustees and authorised signatories.
Ensure customer records remain compliant with AML and sanctions requirements.
Financial Crime Investigations
Conduct investigations into potential money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions breaches and fraud.Liaise with business areas to obtain supporting evidence.
Maintain accurate investigation records and audit trails.
Produce clear investigation reports with recommendations.
nancial Crime Systems
Support the optimisation of transaction monitoring and sanctions screening systems.
Participate in threshold, rule and scenario reviews.
Identify opportunities to improve system effectiveness and reduce false positives.
Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system enhancements.
Regulatory Compliance
Maintain knowledge of FCA, JMLSG, OFSI, HM Treasury and relevant UK regulatory requirements.
Support implementation of regulatory changes affecting Financial Crime Operations.
Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures and risk appetite.Fi

Skills & Experience

We're looking for candidates who have:Previous experience within Financial Crime Operations in a banking or financial services environment.Strong knowledge of AML, CTF, sanctions, fraud prevention and financial crime investigations.Experience conducting transaction monitoring investigations and sanctions screening.Knowledge of SAR preparation and escalation processes.Experience reviewing CDD, EDD, PEPs and UBO structures.

Understanding of UK financial crime regulations including FCA requirements, POCA, JMLSG guidance, OFSI and HM Treasury sanctions.Excellent analytical and investigative skills with strong attention to detail.Ability to prioritise workloads and meet regulatory deadlines.Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.Experience mentoring colleagues or supporting team development would be advantageous.
