Rate: £27.81 per hour PAYE or £36.40 per hour Umbrella
Contract: 12 months initially, Temporary Contract
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite and remainder working from home

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Fire Safety Officer on behalf of our public sector client.

This is a critical role responsible for managing and improving fire safety compliance across a large residential housing portfolio, ensuring residents remain safe and that all statutory and regulatory obligations are met. The successful candidate will act as a key technical expert, supporting the organisation's building safety agenda, undertaking fire risk assessments, contributing to Building Safety Cases, and driving continuous improvement across fire safety management systems.

Key Responsibilities

As Fire Safety Officer, you will:

  • Lead and support the delivery of fire safety compliance across organisation owned and managed housing assets.
  • Conduct Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) and produce detailed technical reports.
  • Support the preparation of Building Safety Cases and Building Safety Case Reports.
  • Monitor and manage FRA programmes, ensuring assessments and remedial actions are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Undertake quality assurance audits and inspections across housing stock.
  • Provide specialist fire safety advice to managers, contractors, residents, and senior stakeholders.
  • Support the development, implementation, and review of fire safety policies, procedures, and action plans.
  • Assist with fire safety training and awareness programmes across the organisation.
  • Investigate fire-related incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences.
  • Produce reports, performance data, and recommendations for senior management and governance boards.
  • Support fire safety compliance on new developments and regeneration projects throughout the design and construction phases.
  • Build effective relationships with enforcement authorities, consultants, contractors, and partner organisations.
  • Deputise for the Assistant Fire Safety Manager when required.

About You

We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive fire safety professional who can confidently provide expert advice and lead on compliance activities.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience within fire safety, building compliance, property management, housing, or a related sector.
  • Experience managing or advising on fire safety within a medium to large organisation.
  • Experience carrying out and reviewing Fire Risk Assessments across residential or housing assets.
  • Experience developing and implementing fire safety policies, procedures, and improvement plans.
  • Experience preparing and presenting reports to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering high-quality outcomes within agreed timescales.
  • Experience managing or mentoring staff.

Essential Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and its application within residential housing.
  • Detailed understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Knowledge of PAS 79 Fire Risk Assessment methodology.
  • Understanding of building construction and building safety principles.
  • Knowledge of BS 9999 and BS 9991 standards.
  • Understanding of emerging fire safety and building safety legislation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Essential Qualifications

  • Recognised Fire Safety Qualification, NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate, or equivalent Level 3/Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety.

Desirable

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Third-party accredited Fire Risk Assessor registration.
  • Experience using CAD drawings.
  • Experience working within social housing or local government environments.
