The Role
Our client is looking for a Fire & Security Design Engineer to take ownership of fire and security design packages from concept through to construction support. You'll produce calculations, drawings, specifications and technical submissions for fire alarm and security systems, working to BS 5839 and relevant fire strategy requirements, and coordinating closely with clients and consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Own fire and security design packages from concept through to construction support
- Produce fire alarm designs in accordance with BS 5839, covering system architecture, zoning and cause & effect
- Produce security system designs covering CCTV, access control, intruder detection, intercom and ANPR
- Undertake detector selection, sounder/VAD design, loop loading, PSU, battery and voltage-drop calculations
- Develop fire alarm zoning, interfaces, I/O schedules and cause & effect matrices
- Develop security system architecture, storage calculations and camera coverage assessments
- Produce access control architecture, door schedules and integration requirements
- Prepare technical submissions and provide construction support, resolving technical queries as they arise
- Coordinate with clients and consultants throughout the design process
- Significant experience as a Fire & Security Design Engineer or equivalent within the fire alarm/security industry
- Proven track record taking projects from concept through to construction support
- Strong working knowledge of BS 5839 fire alarm design, including cause & effect, detector selection and zoning
- Working knowledge of BS 9999 and fire strategy interfaces desirable
- Security system design experience (CCTV, access control, intruder detection); FIA qualifications desirable
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant CAD/design software
- Highly organised, methodical and quality-focused, with strong attention to detail
- Confident communicator, able to coordinate effectively with clients and consultants
