Job Purpose
The Fitter Supervisor is responsible for leading and supporting a small team of Fitters while remaining actively involved in day-to-day fitting activities. This is a hands-on supervisory role requiring strong technical skills, leadership, and a commitment to quality, safety and productivity. The successful candidate will ensure components are assembled, finished, deburred and inspected to the required standards while driving continuous improvement and maintaining an efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities
Supervisory Duties
- Supervise, motivate and support a small team of Bench Fitters.
- Allocate daily work and monitor progress to meet production schedules.
- Provide training, coaching and technical guidance to team members.
- Monitor quality of work and ensure company standards are consistently achieved.
- Promote a positive, safe and productive working environment.
- Liaise with Production, Quality, Engineering and Stores departments to ensure smooth workflow.
- Assist in resolving production issues and implementing process improvements.
Bench Fitting Duties
- Carry out hands-on bench fitting, deburring, fettling, polishing and finishing of machined components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
- Use a range of hand tools and bench fitting machinery safely and effectively.
- Identify defects or non-conformances and take appropriate corrective action.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area using 5S principles.
- Complete production documentation accurately and on time.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency and productivity.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Fitter within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Previous experience supervising or leading a small team.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Skilled in deburring, fitting, finishing and assembly techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet production deadlines.
