We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, organised and reliable Food Technician to support the delivery of practical Food lessons across our secondary school.
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that our Food Technology department is well prepared, safe and fully equipped for practical lessons. You will work closely with teaching staff to prepare ingredients, equipment and resources, maintain high standards of food hygiene and health and safety, and help create an engaging environment in which students can develop their practical skills.
The role
As a Food Technician, you will be responsible for:
- Preparing ingredients, equipment and materials for practical Food lessons.
- Setting up and clearing away practical work areas before and after lessons.
- Supporting teachers and students during practical activities where appropriate.
- Ensuring food preparation areas, equipment and workspaces are clean, hygienic and safe.
- Maintaining appropriate food hygiene, health and safety and COSHH procedures.
- Monitoring and maintaining stocks of ingredients, equipment and other resources.
- Ordering and replenishing supplies within agreed budgets and procedures.
- Checking, cleaning and safely storing kitchen equipment and appliances.
- Supporting the department with practical demonstrations, displays and special activities.
- Reporting damaged, faulty or unsafe equipment promptly.
- Assisting with the general organisation and smooth running of the Food Technology department.

- Able to communicate positively and professionally with students and staff.
- Knowledgeable about food hygiene, safe food preparation and kitchen health and safety.
- Practical, resourceful and able to work calmly in a busy school environment.
- Committed to maintaining high standards and supporting an inclusive learning environment.
Previous experience of working in a school, college, catering environment or similar practical setting would be advantageous, although we would welcome applications from candidates with relevant skills and experience who are keen to develop within an educational environment.
