We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Forensic Medical Examiner (FME) to join our SARC team. This is an opportunity to provide expert clinical care and support to victims of rape and sexual assault, ensuring they receive a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed service.

This is an on-call position offering 12 – 24 hours per week covering Monday and/or Sunday from 07:00–19:00.

Located in Bournemouth, The Shores SARC operates 24/7, 365 days a year, with a committed team of on-call Crisis Workers and Sexual Offence Examiners. Our mission is to deliver trauma-informed, high-quality care and support to those who need it most.

The successful candidate will receive a retainer fee of £200 per 12-hour shift, with an additional £300 per call out. As a Forensic Medical Examiner, you will be expected to arrive at the SARC location within 60 minutes or receiving the call out.

Key Responsibilities

As a Forensic Medical Examiner, you will undertake acute forensic medical examinations and provide holistic aftercare in line with professional standards, including PHL, FFLM and GMC guidance. You will work closely with Crisis Workers, police colleagues and partner agencies to ensure personalised and compassionate care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting forensic medical examinations for victims of rape and sexual assault
  • Providing sensitive, patient-centred care and ensuring informed consent throughout examinations
  • Taking forensic samples, documenting injuries, and maintaining accurate clinical records
  • Completing safeguarding, sexual health, pregnancy, STI and blood-borne virus risk assessments
  • Supporting multi-agency working with police, healthcare and support services
  • Preparing professional documentation and statements where required
  • Maintaining high standards of confidentiality, clinical governance and professional practice

About You

As a Forensic Medical Examiner, you will have:

  • A current GMC registration
  • The ability to obtain an Enhanced DBS along with NPPV Level 2 vetting
  • Been a continuous UK residency for at least 3 years (vetting requirement)
  • Experience of working with children, young people and vulnerable groups
  • Knowledge and experience of forensic examination and medical aftercare for complainants of sexual assault
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practices
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • A professional and non-judgemental approach
  • Driving licence and access to own vehicle

  • Knowledge and experience of sexual and women’s health
  • Sexual Offence Examiner experience/training
  • Statement writing and giving evidence experience
