Youth Mentor Alternative Provision

Times: 8.45- 15.30
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Youth Mentor to join an alternative provision in Aston, Birmingham, supporting young people who may be involved in gangs, at risk of exploitation, or facing significant barriers to education and positive engagement.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping vulnerable young people make positive changes in their lives. You will build trusting relationships with pupils, provide consistent mentoring and guidance, and help them develop the confidence, skills and behaviours needed to engage positively with education and their wider community.

Key Responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have complex social, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring and support.
• Engage pupils who may be involved in gangs, county lines, criminal exploitation or other high-risk activities.
• Help young people understand the consequences of risky behaviour and identify safer, positive alternatives.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, conflict resolution, communication and decision-making.
• Encourage positive engagement with education and help pupils develop aspirations for their future.
• Tutor Children on Functional Skills: so Practical courses designed to increase engagement

You:

• Do you have experience working with young people, particularly those considered vulnerable or at risk.
• Understands the challenges associated with gangs, exploitation, violence and youth offending.
• Is able to establish boundaries while maintaining positive relationships with challenging young people.
• Is calm, patient, resilient and non-judgemental.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.
• Is passionate about helping young people make positive changes and achieve their potential.
• within alternative provision, schools, youth work, mentoring, safeguarding, youth offending or similar settings would be highly desirable.
