Role Overview:

We are seeking an inspiring and motivated Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join the education team at HMP Stocken.
You will deliver high‑quality Maths teaching from Entry Level 1 up to Level 2, supporting small groups of learners to build confidence, develop essential numeracy skills, and work towards recognised qualifications.
This is a rewarding role where you will design structured learning plans, deliver engaging sessions, and play a key part in helping individuals progress towards long‑term personal, academic, and employment goals.
  
Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning Delivery
  • Deliver Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 to small groups.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that meet a range of learning needs.
  • Use varied teaching strategies to support learners with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and academic support throughout the learning journey.
Learner Support & Progression
  • Create and maintain individual learning plans to track progress and support development.
  • Motivate learners, helping them build confidence and resilience.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
Quality, Compliance & Safeguarding
  • Ensure high standards of compliance, quality assurance, and record keeping.
  • Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health & safety standards. 
Essential Criteria:
  • GCSE Maths Grade C/4 or equivalent.
  • Ability to teach Functional Skills Maths up to Level 2.
  • Strong subject knowledge and experience in delivering Maths.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or supporting learner progress.
  • Ability to engage learners using a range of teaching methods.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Teaching or assessing qualification (ideally a level 5 but would consider PTLLS/AET, DTLLS, TAQA, Cert Ed).
  • Experience working in secure environments (advantageous, not essential).
  • Willingness to work towards a teaching or assessing qualification (full support provided during probation).
