Funeral Director in Christchurch

Talent Guardian is recruiting an experienced Funeral Director to join a dedicated team in Christchurch. This is a rewarding opportunity to guide families through funeral arrangements with care, professionalism and attention to detail.

You will support families from their first conversation through to the day of the funeral, ensuring their wishes are understood and every arrangement is handled with dignity and compassion.

What you’ll be doing
  • Meeting with bereaved families to discuss their wishes and arrange funeral services.
  • Providing clear, sensitive guidance on funeral planning, paperwork and relevant requirements.
  • Coordinating burials and cremations, including arrangements with clergy, celebrants, cemeteries and crematoria.
  • Overseeing the preparation and presentation of the deceased with care and respect.
  • Managing funeral day arrangements so services run smoothly.
  • Maintaining accurate records and managing several arrangements at once without losing attention to detail.
What we’re looking for
  • Proven experience as a Funeral Director.
  • A compassionate, discreet and professional approach to supporting bereaved families.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Good knowledge of funeral procedures and industry requirements.
  • A full UK driving licence.
A Diploma in Funeral Directing or equivalent qualification would be welcome, but is not essential.

Working hours and phone duty
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm.
  • Weeknight phone duty one evening in three (for example, every third Wednesday).
  • Weekend phone duty one weekend in 25, from 4:00pm Saturday to 8:00am Monday.
