Gardening Assistant / Estate Maintenance Person

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and hardworking Gardening Assistant / Estate Maintenance Person to join our small team and work alongside our Head Gardener at a well-established private country estate, located approximately 8 miles from Boroughbridge.

The position is full-time, Monday–Friday position, working 40 hours per week, offering an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in maintaining beautiful gardens and grounds.

The estate comprises extensive, established grounds featuring mature trees and shrubs, formal hedges, greenhouses, roses, lawns, ponds, and herbaceous borders, all requiring year-round care and attention.

Main Duties

• The successful candidate will be a practical, hands-on individual who is happy to undertake a varied range of gardening, grounds keeping and general maintenance duties, including:
• General gardening jobs
• Maintaining the grounds and ensuring all areas surrounding the property are clean, tidy, and well presented
• Competent use of a wide range of hand tools and horticultural machinery, including small tractors, lawnmowers, strimmer’s, leaf blowers and hedge cutters
• General maintenance and ad hoc duties within and around the main property
• Car valeting and maintaining vehicles to a high standard
• General care of the estate’s dogs
• Assisting the Head Gardener with the day-to-day upkeep and presentation of the estate

Key Skills, Qualities & Experience

The successful candidate will be:

• Enthusiastic, reliable and self-motivated
• Hardworking, conscientious, and professional in their approach
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Practical, adaptable, and willing to undertake a varied range of responsibilities
• Able to work independently as well as part of a small team
• Experienced in horticulture and/or general maintenance, although this is desirable rather than essential
• A confident and competent user of gardening tools and machinery
• A holder of a current full driving licence – essential
• Comfortable around dogs and able to provide attentive, responsible care
