(GBSIoT) Technical Services Engineering Placement
Fixed term placement until July 2027
The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology (GBSIoT) is looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Technical Services Engineering Placement to join our team for an exciting industrial placement year.
This is a unique opportunity to build on your engineering knowledge through teaching, demonstration, student engagement and outreach. Working within our state-of-the-art Cyber Physical Manufacturing Factory, you will help inspire the next generation of engineers while gaining invaluable hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Institutes of Technology are a national network of partnerships between colleges, universities and leading employers, delivering high-quality technical education in STEM subjects.
The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology is led by Solihull College & University Centre, working alongside Birmingham City University, South and City College Birmingham, Aston University, Birmingham Metropolitan College, University of Birmingham and University College Birmingham. Based at our Hub on Holt Street, Birmingham, you'll have access to the largest Cyber Physical Manufacturing Rig in Europe and work alongside educators, engineers and industry professionals dedicated to developing future technical talent.
Student engagement and outreach is central to the work GBSIoT staff do within the community. The education and skills that the students obtain whilst learning at one of our partnering colleges or universities must be relevant to the employers in the region. It is for these reasons that we wish to recruit a Technical Services Engineering Placement who will have the opportunity to use their technical skills to teach others through demonstration and conducting workshops whilst working alongside our partner staff.
In the Technical Services Engineering Placement, you will support teaching, learning and engagement activities delivered across the GBSIoT partnership.
You'll help students aged 16+ understand engineering concepts through demonstrations, workshops and practical activities, while developing your own technical, communication and professional skills.
Candidates should be coming to the end of their study or already completed and be able to start the placement in October 2026. They will need to have completed a course in the UK that is at degree level. Candidates must also have right to work in the UK that is not time limited and does not require sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route either at the start of the scheme or on completion.
Please note if you are selected for the next stage in the process, you will be required to attend the GBSIoT premises, unless exceptional circumstances apply.
GBSIoT is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community and welcomes applications from individuals across all sectors. We aim to reflect the diversity of our student population in our staff profile, ensuring that we provide the best possible experience and environment for our learners. Our goal is to continue to develop a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive workplace where all staff can thrive.
GBSIoT is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all students and expects all staff to engage fully with this commitment, therefore an enhanced DBS will need to be completed upon appointment.
