Rate: £380-£400 per day (umbrella)

Contract: 6 months+ (major 2-3 year highways programme, strong extension likelihood)

Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced General Foreman to support a major highways and civils development in Oxfordshire. This long‑term programme includes substantial roadworks, structures, drainage, utilities interfaces and general civils delivery, offering stability and strong extension potential.

You will lead site teams, manage subcontractors, ensure safe and compliant delivery, maintain progress against programme, and uphold quality and environmental standards across the project.




Key Responsibilities



Leadership & Team Oversight

  • Manage Site Engineers, Section Engineers and Foremen

  • Drive a strong safety culture across the entire site team

  • Provide clear daily briefings and maintain accurate site records



Construction Delivery

  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme

  • Monitor progress and control all aspects of site operations

  • Deliver works to specification and support project delivery within budget



Subcontractor & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage and monitor subcontractor performance

  • Liaise with client representatives and designers

  • Attend monthly progress meetings and compile reports



Quality, Environment & Compliance

  • Implement and manage Quality and Environmental plans

  • Ensure full compliance with HSE procedures and site systems

  • Introduce improvements and innovations where appropriate



Commercial & Cost Control

  • Support cost control and contract administration

  • Ensure accurate records are prepared and maintained




Essential Experience

  • Proven experience as a General Foreman within civil engineering

  • Strong leadership and organisational skills

  • Excellent understanding of construction processes, equipment and safety procedures

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Valid CSCS / CSR / SAFEPASS

  • Previous experience on highway or public realm projects




Desirable Experience

  • Relevant construction management qualifications

  • Experience managing a full site or a section of a major civils project

  • Temporary Works Coordinator trained

  • CPCS Appointed Person (Lifting)
