General Foreman – Highways

Location: Avonmouth to Hotwells (A4 Corridor), Bristol

Permanent, Full Time

Our client, Taylor Woodrow, a trusted provider of infrastructure and civil engineering solutions, is seeking an experienced General Foreman to join a major £13m highways improvement scheme along the A4. This is a high-profile project covering a 7-mile stretch of road, involving complex logistics, heavy traffic management, and delivery within a constrained corridor.

The works include:

  • Junction improvements
  • Drainage upgrades
  • Carriageway resurfacing
  • Significant traffic management on a tight urban route

As General Foreman, you will take responsibility for managing construction activities across a designated section of works, ensuring delivery against safety, quality, programme, and environmental objectives.

You will lead site teams, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations on a technically challenging and logistically demanding scheme. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure in partnership with Bristol City Council.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Lead a safety-first culture across site
  • Ensure full compliance with HS&E legislation and project plans
  • Maintain safe working environments, access, and welfare facilities

Site & Project Management

  • Manage daily site operations and coordinate subcontractors
  • Develop and implement short-term programmes from the master schedule
  • Identify and manage changes, risks, and site issues proactively
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with method statements and targets

Quality & Delivery

  • Conduct inspections and ensure adherence to quality standards
  • Implement robust site procedures and continuous improvement
  • Monitor productivity and drive performance against programme

Commercial & Resource Management

  • Plan and manage plant, materials, and labour requirements
  • Monitor costs and take action to maintain budget control
  • Maintain accurate site records, reports, and diaries

Engineering & Problem Solving

  • Work with engineers and designers to resolve on-site challenges
  • Contribute to innovative solutions and value engineering
  • Ensure best practice and efficient construction methodologies
