General Foreman – Civil Engineering / Rail Infrastructure

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Foreman to join a major transport infrastructure project in Cardiff that will help transform public transport connectivity across the city.

Working on a flagship scheme involving rail infrastructure, highways improvements, drainage, utility diversions and public realm works, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of site activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

This role would suit an experienced General Foreman with a strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure projects who enjoys leading teams and driving successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily site operations across designated work areas.
• Manage direct labour, subcontractors, plant and materials to ensure efficient delivery of works.
• Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures and site-specific requirements.
• Promote and maintain a positive health, safety and environmental culture on site.
• Deliver daily briefings, toolbox talks and site inductions where required.
• Ensure works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and quality standards.
• Work closely with Site Engineers, Section Engineers and Site Management teams to coordinate works and resolve issues.
• Monitor progress against programme and proactively identify and mitigate delays.
• Ensure labour, plant and materials are available to meet programme requirements.
• Assist with short-term planning and look-ahead programmes.
• Maintain accurate site records, diaries and progress information.
• Ensure temporary works, permits and safe systems of work are implemented correctly.
• Support the management of subcontractor performance and productivity.
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders and local authorities where required.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience working as a General Foreman, Foreman or Senior Supervisor within civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Experience delivering projects involving highways, drainage, utilities, structures, earthworks or rail infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies and sequencing of works.
• Proven ability to manage site teams and subcontractors effectively.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• Experience working on rail, tram, highways or major transport infrastructure projects.
• SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
• CSCS Gold or Black Card.
• Temporary Works Supervisor qualification.
• First Aid at Work qualification.
• Experience working under NEC contracts.
• NRSWA Supervisor accreditation
