The Opportunity


We're currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing power solutions business that specialises in generator hire, servicing, maintenance, and sales. Due to continued growth and increased customer demand, our client is looking to add experienced Generator Engineers to their engineering team around the Cannock and Birmingham area.


This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in industrial diesel engines and generator maintenance to join a respected business offering long-term career prospects, ongoing training, and competitive earning potential.



The Role


As a Generator Engineer, you'll be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault-finding, load bank testing, and repairing diesel generators across customer sites throughout the UK, as well as supporting the company's own hire fleet.



Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned servicing and maintenance on diesel generator sets at customer sites across the UK.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and carry out repairs to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Perform load bank testing to ensure generators are operating efficiently and reliably.
  • Complete pre-hire and post-hire inspections on generator equipment.
  • Service and maintain the company's generator hire fleet.
  • Build strong relationships with customers by delivering a professional and high-quality service.
  • Ensure company vehicles, tools, equipment, and work areas are maintained to a high standard.
  • Complete service reports and relevant documentation accurately.


About You


Essential Requirements

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with diesel generators.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills on industrial diesel engines.
  • Ability to carry out temporary repairs to keep customer operations running until permanent repairs can be completed.
  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home when required.
  • Participation in a 24/7 call-out rota.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Flexible approach, with the ability to support generator installations, fabrication work, and UPS battery installations when required.


Desirable Skills

  • Experience working on a variety of generator manufacturers' equipment.
  • Manufacturer-specific training or certifications.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
