Geotechnical Engineer – Ground Investigation

Location: Sizewell C, Suffolk
Contract: Approximately 16 weeks, with potential for further phases
Start date: Early October
Pay: Day rate, with a weekly mobilisation allowance where applicable
Working hours: Generally 8:00am–5:00pm/6:00pm, Monday to Friday

We are recruiting approximately four Geotechnical Engineers to support a ground investigation contractor delivering works on the Sizewell C new build project.

Working alongside rotary and cable percussion drilling rigs, you will manage site operations associated with borehole drilling, ground sampling and testing, helping ensure works are completed safely and in line with project requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day ground investigation activities alongside rotary and cable percussion rigs.

  • Coordinate drilling operations, borehole testing and ground sample collection.

  • Undertake GPS setting-out and surveying.

  • Carry out or oversee borehole testing.

  • Liaise with drilling crews and the wider site team to support the delivery of the works.

  • Maintain safe working practices and comply with site procedures.

Experience and requirements

  • Typically three or more years of relevant geotechnical or ground investigation experience.

  • Experience working alongside rotary and cable percussion drilling rigs.

  • Experience in GPS setting-out, surveying and borehole testing.

  • Relevant safety training, including CSCS.

  • SSSTS or SMSTS for personnel undertaking rig supervision duties.

  • Ability to drive, which is essential for rig-based engineers.

  • Flexibility to undertake weekend and out-of-hours work when required.

Desirable training

  • First Aid.

  • Manual Handling.

  • Asbestos Awareness.

Security clearance

All personnel must successfully complete BPSS security checks before commencing work. The client requires evidence of employment history covering the previous three years and proof of tax payments.

Contract outlook

The initial phase is expected to run for approximately 16 weeks. Further phases are anticipated over the coming year, although extensions and continuity between phases cannot currently be guaranteed.
