An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Geotechnical Design Engineer to join its growing Cardiff office. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of infrastructure, commercial, residential and energy projects across Wales and the South West.
You will be involved in the design and delivery of geotechnical solutions from initial site investigation through to detailed design, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake geotechnical design for foundations, retaining walls, slopes and earthworks.
- Interpret ground investigation data and prepare geotechnical design reports.
- Carry out geotechnical analysis using industry-standard software.
- Produce factual and interpretative ground investigation reports.
- Assist in the planning, specification and supervision of site investigations.
- Liaise with clients, contractors and project stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Ensure designs comply with current Eurocodes, British Standards and industry best practice.
- Support junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence within the team.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
- Experience within a geotechnical consultancy or design environment.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical principles and soil mechanics.
- Experience producing geotechnical design calculations and reports.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Plaxis, WALLAP, Oasys Suite or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Working towards Chartered status (ICE or Geological Society) would be advantageous.
