This is a great opportunity to take ownership of a busy and commercially important Giftware department within an established garden centre.
It's a broad role covering a wide range of categories including homeware, candles and fragrance, fashion, jewellery, toys and seasonal ranges. Buying forms a significant part of the position, alongside leading the team, driving sales and maintaining strong retail standards.
What you'll be doing:
As Giftware Department Manager, you'll have responsibility for the commercial performance, presentation and day to day running of the department.
- Leading and supporting a small team across the Giftware department.
- Driving sales, standards and overall department performance.
- Buying across a broad range of giftware and seasonal categories.
- Attending buying events in the UK and occasionally Europe.
- Managing stock levels, replenishment, margins and product ranges.
- Maintaining strong merchandising and visual standards across the department.
- Playing a key role in seasonal trading, particularly Christmas.
- Managing rotas, administration and general department organisation.
- Working closely with the wider management team across the garden centre.
What they're looking for:
- Previous retail management or supervisory experience.
- A commercially minded retailer with a good understanding of sales, stock and merchandising.
- Strong people management skills and the ability to lead from the front.
- Someone with a good eye for product, presentation and visual merchandising.
- Buying experience would be beneficial, although it isn't essential and training can be provided.
- Garden centre experience would be preferred, although strong candidates from other retail environments will be considered.
- An organised, hands on manager who is comfortable working across a broad and varied department.
