Goods Inwards Quality Inspector
Location: Colchester, Essex
Salary: Competitive Salary + Benefits

This is a hands-on inspection role responsible for checking incoming components, materials and finished parts before they enter the production process. You'll work closely with the Production, Engineering, Procurement and Warehouse teams to identify quality issues, prevent defective parts from reaching assembly and help maintain consistently high standards.
The role would suit someone with previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment who enjoys a practical role and has a good eye for detail.
This is not purely a cell-based quality role. You'll be working directly with components and materials, carrying out inspections and, where required, undertaking basic rework and preparation of parts before they move into production.

- Carrying out visual, dimensional, quantity, finish and basic weld inspections.
- Checking components against engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
- Using measuring and inspection equipment to confirm dimensions and quality.
- Identifying defective, damaged or non-conforming parts.
- Recording non-conforming materials where required.
- Working with Engineering, Production, Procurement and suppliers to resolve quality issues.
- Supporting final product inspection when required.
- Preparing metalwork and components for production through basic dressing, hole clearance and other preparation work.
- Carrying out minor rework or rectification of components where required.
- Checking pre-assembled parts and identifying faults or issues before they progress further through production.
- Using hand and power tools as required to inspect, prepare or rework components.
- Maintaining accurate inspection records and documentation.
- Supporting continuous improvement activities aimed at reducing supplier defects and improving incoming quality.
- Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment.

- Comfortable working hands-on with parts, materials and production components.
- Experience using hand and power tools.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to raise quality issues when something isn't right.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering, Warehouse and Procurement teams.
- Good numeracy and IT skills.
- A strong work ethic and reliable approach to work.
Experience with sheet metal, fabrication or welding would be advantageous.
