About the Role
Join our January 2027 early careers intake as a Graduate / Junior Mechanical Building Services Engineer and become part of the Xcellerate cohort, our dedicated early careers development programme.
Based at our head office in Godalming, Surrey, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers on Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical projects. From day one you’ll gain hands-on design experience, work within multidisciplinary project teams, and build your technical and professional skills with structured support.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role is predominantly office-based, with occasional site visits. A full, valid driving licence would therefore be an advantage but is not essential.
What you’ll do
You’ll gain experience across the full design process, from client brief and concept through to detailed design and site implementation:
- Support the development of project requirements through client consultations and site visits
- Help to design ventilation systems to suit GMP classification, containment and pressure regimes
- Calculate heat gains, losses and internal loads using thermal modelling and building usage data
- Design heating, cooling, domestic water and above-ground drainage systems
- Work on specialist services such as steam, compressed air, process gases and liquid nitrogen
- Optimise systems to reduce energy usage and aid decarbonisation through the use of renewable technologies
- Produce calculations, drawings and specifications to relevant standards, including Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and GMP
- Provide technical input to support procurement, estimating and cost planning
- Coordinate building services with other design disciplines and the in-house 3D Revit modelling team
- Carry out site surveys, respond to design queries and support commissioning and handover
You will be
- A graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline
- Experienced in the workplace having spent at least a year working in a mechanical engineering role on industrial placement or since graduating
- A problem-solver who can explain complex ideas simply
- Proactive, with bags of initiative and enjoy working as part of a team
- Familiar with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES or Cymap
- Interested in how practical AI tools can support rather than replace good engineering
- Keen to keep learning and progress towards chartership
Why Join Scitech-EKIUM?
It’s an exciting time to join Scitech-EKIUM as we continue to grow, welcoming talented professionals across multiple engineering disciplines. Through Xcellerate and beyond, you’ll follow a structured development programme, with mentoring and a funded route to chartership, designed to build your technical skills and set you up for a rewarding long-term career.
