Are you a recent graduate in Town Planning or a related discipline looking to take the next step in your career? We are working with a well-established and highly regarded planning consultancy in Edinburgh that is looking to recruit a Graduate Town Planner to join its growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has recently completed their degree and has gained some practical experience through a placement year, internship, or previous role within planning. You'll be joining a collaborative team that will support your professional development and provide exposure to a diverse portfolio of planning projects across Scotland.
The Role
As a Graduate Town Planner, you'll work alongside experienced planners on a wide range of residential, commercial, mixed-use and rural development projects. You'll gain hands-on experience throughout the planning process while building the skills and knowledge needed to progress towards MRTPI status.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications.
- Supporting the preparation of planning statements, site appraisals and planning reports.
- Undertaking planning policy research and reviewing local development plans.
- Liaising with clients, local authorities and external consultants.
- Assisting with planning appeals and development management work.
- Attending client meetings, site visits and stakeholder consultations.
- Supporting senior planners with project delivery across a varied client base.
About You
We're keen to hear from candidates who have:
- A degree (or postgraduate qualification) in Town Planning or a related discipline accredited by the RTPI.
- Around 6-18 months of planning experience through a graduate role, internship, industrial placement or work experience within either the private or public sector.
- A genuine passion for planning and the built environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
