We are recruiting for a Graduate Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join an established housing developer based in Borehamwood.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Quantity Surveying graduate who is looking to begin their commercial career within residential construction. You will work alongside an experienced commercial team and receive structured training across all areas of quantity surveying.
The Role
As a Graduate Trainee Quantity Surveyor, you will assist with the commercial management of residential developments from the early procurement stages through to completion.
Your duties will include:
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement and tender enquiries
- Obtaining and comparing subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Supporting the preparation of subcontract orders
- Assisting with valuations, payments and cost reporting
- Measuring completed works and reviewing variations
- Monitoring project costs against budgets
- Supporting the preparation of monthly commercial reports
- Liaising with site teams, subcontractors and suppliers
- Assisting with final accounts
- Attending site and commercial meetings
- Maintaining accurate project and financial records
The Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline
- A genuine interest in residential development and construction
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good communication and organisational skills
- The ability to work as part of a commercial and site-based team
- Good Microsoft Excel and general IT skills
- A willingness to learn and develop within the role
- A full UK driving licence would be advantageous
Previous construction experience is not essential, although placement, internship or site experience would be beneficial.
The Opportunity
This role offers a salary of £27,000–£30,000, depending on experience and qualifications, together with excellent training and long-term career progression.
You will gain practical experience across procurement, cost control, subcontractor management, valuations and final accounts while working on residential development projects.
