Pay
- £21.10 per hour PAYE
- £31.65 per hour overtime after 40 hours per week
- £28.06 per hour for night shifts
- £400 weekly travel and lodge allowance
Estimated Gross Weekly Earnings
- 45 hours, days: £1,402.25 per week
- 67 hours, days: £2,098.55 per week
- 45 hours, nights: £1,680.77 per week
- 67 hours, nights: £2,377.07 per week
The estimated weekly figures include the £400 travel and lodge allowance and are subject to the hours and shifts worked.
We are looking to speak with experienced Grinders and Metal Finishers for upcoming long-term fabrication and marine engineering work in Fife.
This opportunity would suit candidates with experience in shipbuilding, structural fabrication, defence, manufacturing or heavy engineering. Fife has a strong and established engineering labour market, supported by long-term shipbuilding activity in the wider area, including the Rosyth Type 31 Frigate Programme led by Babcock.
The work is expected to suit tradespeople who are comfortable working in structured production environments with high standards around safety, quality and finish.
Key duties
- Grinding and dressing welded joints and fabricated components
- Removing excess weld material, spatter, burrs and sharp edges
- Preparing steel plate and structural sections before and after welding
- Blending and finishing welds to the required standard
- Using angle grinders, die grinders and other powered hand tools
- Supporting welders, platers and fabricators during production
- Carrying out visual checks on completed work
- Identifying defects or areas requiring further preparation
- Maintaining tools and equipment in a safe working condition
- Following site safety, quality and housekeeping procedures
Experience required
- Previous grinding or metal-finishing experience
- Experience in shipbuilding, fabrication, structural steel, defence, manufacturing or heavy engineering environments
- Confidence using angle grinders, die grinders and other powered tools
- Understanding of weld preparation and finishing requirements
- Ability to work accurately without damaging parent material
- Good awareness of workplace safety and the correct use of PPE
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider production team
- Previous experience working with heavy plate and structural steel would be beneficial
