Introduction
Acorn by Synergie is recruiting for a Grounds Maintenance Keeper to join a team responsible for maintaining a number of sites and community facilities within the town.
This is a varied, hands-on role involving grounds maintenance, cleaning, basic building maintenance and outdoor site inspections. The successful candidate will work across various locations, helping to keep facilities clean, safe and well maintained.
The role is physically demanding and involves working outdoors in all weather conditions. A full UK driving licence is essential, as you'll be required to drive vehicles and operate ride-on equipment at various locations.
The hours will be confirmed at interview but will include participation in a weekend and bank holiday rota to cover safety checks at outdoor sites. You may also be required to work additional hours on rare occasions for large-scale events.
What We Offer

Key Duties
- Mow, strim and cut back grounds at maintained sites in line with agreed grounds maintenance regimes.
- Clear litter from maintained properties and other public areas.
- Clean Council changing rooms.
- Inspect play areas and pitches for safety and cleanliness and complete records of checks.
- Carry out grounds and other maintenance works in the cemetery, including occasional liaison with funeral directors and families during interments.
- Lock and unlock buildings and facilities as required, with responsibility for safeguarding keys and the security of property.
- Carry out basic building maintenance tasks, including basic repairs and decorating.
- Plant, maintain and water floral displays and hanging baskets.
- Assist with the preparation of sports pitches and unlock and lock facilities for use by sports teams, often working alone as part of the weekend rota.
- Identify and note areas of litter pollution within the town through visual inspection.
- Report incidents of graffiti and vandalism.
- Maintain regular records of areas covered, cleaning carried out, problem areas found and hours worked.
- Follow all health and safety instructions, operational procedures, training and relevant risk assessments for grounds maintenance activities.
- Use PPE, machinery, tools and equipment correctly and responsibly, carrying out pre-use checks where required and reporting defects or concerns immediately.
- Participate in consultations, toolbox talks, safety briefings, training sessions and risk assessment activities.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of colleagues, contractors, volunteers and members of the public using Council open spaces.
Requirements
Essential:

- Ability to demonstrate pride in your work and in keeping community facilities to a high standard.
- Ability to undertake the physical requirements of the role, including outdoor manual work in all weather conditions, operating ride-on machinery, lifting and moving equipment and prolonged periods of standing and walking over uneven ground.
- Full UK driving licence.
Experience:
- Experience using a range of grounds maintenance tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Experience in cleaning, property and/or grounds maintenance.
- Experience maintaining grounds maintenance equipment.
Desirable:
- Health and safety, property and grounds maintenance or play area inspection qualifications.
As the role may involve contact with children and other vulnerable adults, the successful applicant will be subject to DBS checks.
